POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Division of Compliance & Assistance (DCA), Certification and Licensing Branch (CLB) within the Energy and Environment Cabinet, Department for Environmental Protection, trains and certifies the state’s drinking water, wastewater and solid waste operators.
The DCA is seeking candidates for an Environmental Scientist IV who will provide training and certification services for operators as well as assistance and technical oversight to facilities and local governments. Training and testing events are delivered both onsite and online. Overnight travel, mostly at state parks, is required throughout the year.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate online and onsite drinking water, wastewater and solid waste operator training events.
- Develop training, testing and educational materials for operators.
- Review and approve applications for certification.
- Provide technical assistance to facilities and local governments.
- Work with partner agencies to promote careers in drinking water, wastewater and solid waste.
- Advise management and the agency on issues impacting certified operators.
QUALIFICATIONS:
All applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications.
- Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in a natural, biological or physical science OR Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 20 semester hours in a natural, biological or physical science. Professional experience in natural resources, environmental control or a related area will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
- Five years of experience in natural resources, environmental control, or a related area. Graduate study in the natural or physical sciences will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Individuals with any of the following skills and experiences are encouraged to apply.
Experience with drinking water system operations, wastewater treatment, training or adult education
Demonstrated capability to prepare informational handouts, publications and training materials
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Capable with word processing and presentation software

Salary: Grade 15, (Min-Mid) $3,230.84 – $5,169.46 monthly at 37.5 hours/week
